This is one of my most sought after recipe and all credit goes to my mum who shared it with me. I remember she made this for the first time when my son was about 2 years old and we went back to Malaysia for a holiday. It was too hot for him (especially since by that time he had been living in the UK longer than Malaysia) and he would not eat much during the first few days we arrived. When my mum made this, he ate it and this has been his favourite scone recipe since. Every person I have made this for has asked me for the recipe, so by sharing it more people will be able to taste it and enjoy it. Happy baking!
This recipe makes 15 pcs depending on your scone size, I have used a square 5cm x 5cm pastry cutter. Another tip is that you might need more or less of the milk/cream depending on your flour and where you live. This recipe has been adapted from Sugarywinzy.
Here’s a short youtube video on how I made the Chocolate Chip Muffins.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cups Sugar
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 113g Butter (1/2 cup)
- 3/4 cups Chocolate Chips
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1 pinches Salt
- 1/2 cups Single/Light Cream (I tend to use 3/4 cup)
Instructions
1. Heat Oven to 200 C. Add flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter into bowl.
2. Use pastry blender or rub the butter until mix resembles breadcrumbs/sand texture. (If you are a keen baker you would by now have picked up that the chocolate chip has been added before the butter, I bake with my kids often and sometimes this happens, its okay, just carry on)

3. Then add the chocolate chips

4. Now mix eggs, vanilla, cream together with a fork and pour mixture into flour and slowly bring together.
5. Cut into shapes, I tend to use a square cutter for this as that is what my mum did.
6. Bake in oven for 15-20 min depending on your scone size (I used 5cm x 5cm or 2"x2" square cutter and baked the scones for 15 mins.

Notes
Tips
You can use dried fruits such as blueberries, cranberries or sultanas instead if you prefer those. Always use cold butter for this.
Fun Fact - Scones are believed to have originated in Scotland and are closely related to the griddle-baked flatbread known as bannock. They were first made with oats, shaped into a large round, scored into four to six triangles, and cooked on a griddle either over an open fire or on top of the stove
Another fun fact - Scones look like biscuits often used on top of stew in the US, now the difference between a scone and a biscuit although both look pretty similar is that scones have eggs in them while biscuits don't.

I can’t actually believe that my Mum, who was the queen of scones never put chocolate chips in them!

It is the baking powder that helps it rise up well and the high heat

Kids totally love this, you can substitute it with dried fruits if you like as well
