Cookbook Review: Cook Now Eat Later by Mary Berry
I love reading cookbooks and if you come to my house, you will often find cookbooks around the house and a few by my bedside for me to flip through for inspiration (although this often gets me hungry just before bedtime). I will be sharing my favourite cookbooks with you on the blog and hope you find this as an inspiration to add this to your collection. To start off, I will be sharing Cook Now Eat Later by Mary Berry. I discovered Mary Berry’s recipes and cooking when I moved to the UK and that was about the time The Great British Bake Off series was gaining popularity.

What I love most about Mary is her relaxed approach to cooking and baking for guests. I learned to plan and prepare in advance and to get everything ready so that when guest arrive, I am not spending hours still preparing the food but entertaining. An expert at her field, she has over 25 cookbooks published and on sale. I picked up Cook Now Eat Later at our local library – when they had a sale. I think I must have spent just £2 for this and money well spent at it too.

The book shares lots of great recipes and tips on how you can prepare and cook the dishes a few days in advance to help you make cooking stress-free and quick. If you are expecting a lot of freeze ahead recipes then you would be disappointed. To be honest, Mary Berry’s recipes are full-proof and having these ready made dishes will make hosting a lot easier when you can have guests around. For starters, she shares soup recipe, crostinis, galettes and souffles. Fish and seafood dishes as well as poultry and game recipes with both Asian and Western Influence. Lots of vegetarian option here, mainly for prepping in advance. Last but not least the pudding section was totally enticing, many of this is not suitable for freezing only prepping in advance. Will definitely be making the Chocolate and Vanilla Marbled Puddings in the near future to share the recipe on the blog. In the mean time check out my youtube video if you want a sneak peek into the cookbook and the recipes.

How much is the book and where can you buy it?

You can purchase either the kindle, paperback or hardcover copy of Cook Now Eat Later from Amazon. Prices are £4.99 for the kindle download, £11.99 for the paperback and £18.52 for the hardcover.

About Mary Berry

If you are not familiar with Mary, here’s a little more about her. Mary Berry trained at The Cordon Bleu in Paris and Bath School of Home Economics. In the swinging ’60s she became the cookery editor of Housewife magazine, followed by Ideal Home magazine.

Her first television series Afternoon Plus with Judith Chalmers came out in the early ’70s and was a big hit with a lot of British mothers. Three children later she continued through the ’80s writing books and filming television series for BBC from her home in Buckinghamshire.

She started the ’90s by launching her Aga Workshops, a cookery school at home, with over twelve thousand visitors over sixteen years. In the mid ’90s her daughter Annabel launched Mary Berry’s Salad Dressing.

Since the millenium Mary has continued to do demonstrations, write books and do media work. Most noteably she has been a judge on The Great British Bake Off, The Junior Bake Off, Comic Relief Bake off and Sports Relief Bake Off  from 2009 to 2016. In 2012 Mary had the honour of receiving a CBE.

Here’s a short youtube video of my review of the book, do check it out to get an idea of what recipes are included inside it.

This is one cookbook I would really like to have! Meal planning and meal preparation take up so much of my time. I like to know about dishes I can make and freeze for consumption at a later date. I would not mind spending a day in the kitchen to meal prep if it will help me free up some time in the following days. I will get the Kindle download of this cookbook. Thanks for letting me know.
